I am appalled to hear of the inappropriate behaviour that took place at the University of Warwick Student’s Union Conservative Association dinner. I want to publicly confirm that I was not present for this part and had left the event before any music started. I attended the dinner in a personal capacity, as a paying guest. I absolutely condemn this behaviour and am deeply saddened to be associated with such abhorrent conduct.
I have received a letter from various MPs in Warwickshire who are understandably troubled by this situation, as I have been. I want to assure all residents that I fully recognise the actions of these students are not acceptable, and they should not be tolerated. Warwickshire Police are now investigating this incident and it would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.
