Safer Neighbourhood Teams across Warwickshire Police will get a taste of the future when they take delivery of brand new Vauxhall electric vehicles.

The five fully-electric Vauxhall Corsas will be delivered to teams in the coming weeks, for use in community policing enquiries. Their purchase has been enabled by funding from Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe and thanks to work by Fleet Manager Raj Kanda, Head of Business Operations Nathan Moore.

Raj Kanda shows Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe how the new cars have been fitted out for police use.

Mr Seccombe said: “It’s important that we have the right mix of vehicles for operational policing use, balancing cost to the taxpayer and making sure they are fit for purpose while also seeking to reduce emissions and be kinder to the environment.

“While I think electric vehicle technology is still some way off being able to support the demands of 24/7 response policing, these first five electric cars are for use by Safer Neighbourhood Teams.

“Their typical usage for community policing enquiries should be well suited to their size and range, with reduced running and maintenance costs compared to their petrol or diesel equivalents.

“Their purchase comes as part of a wider drive to improve the sustainability the force fleet, so I’m pleased to see the cars hitting the road for the first time. I’m keen to see how our Safer Neighbourhood Teams get on with them in practice.”
