Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe has added his thanks to all those who volunteer their time to support policing, as National Volunteers Week (June 1-7) gets under way.
Volunteers work across a whole host of areas in policing in Warwickshire; from Special Constables and Cadet Leaders, to community speed-watch volunteers, police support volunteers and many more. They all work so hard to address the issues that matter most to our local communities.
In the last year, from April 2019 to March 2020, Warwickshire Police volunteers contributed an astonishing 34,677 hours to the force.
And many of them have been to the fore during the Covid-19 pandemic, giving more of their time to ensure communities are supported. During the lockdown period alone, the Special Constabulary has logged more than 6,000 hours in Warwickshire, with 11 Specials completing over 200 hours each.
Police and Crime Commissioner for Warwickshire Police, Philip Seccombe, said: “I have always been strongly supportive of volunteering, having spent many years myself as an Army Reservist, so I know first-hand the benefits it can bring.
“The contribution that volunteers make across Warwickshire is hugely valuable, something that has been firmly underlined during these recent difficult months by the way communities have rallied round to help one another.
“Across policing, volunteers have made an outstanding effort to support the frontline, be it as members of the Special Constabulary working shoulder-to-shoulder with their regular colleagues, through to Police Support Volunteers who have provided their time in a wide range of functions, including helping our Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.
“I want to say a big thank you to them all on behalf of communities across Warwickshire, who I am sure are very grateful for their continued efforts.”
